Importance of Scholarships
I think scholarships are very important. More so for those who cant afford it. Really , everyone should be aiming to get scholarships because its just such a big help and cause less stress. You can get a scholarship for academics, sports, and any other talent. Now and days college cost A LOT more than it use to. According to college board, since the year 2000, 4-year tuition and fees have increased more than 5% annually above inflation. The economy sucks and some parents don't have the money to pay for the fees which is why a student should aim and attempt to get a scholarship. It'll be less stress on the parents and one less bill they have to worry about. Scholarships are a big help because you aren't required to pay back. This also goes for grants as well. It can help students get more serious and motivated about school to aim higher and be successful then scholarships will come to you.

Reflection Blog
What do I have left to do :
- My GPA is good enough to get into the colleges I want but I want to get it higher.
- Start applying for my colleges in August of my senior year.
- Take my SATs and ACTs
- Finish high school
Timeline:
- Work on GPA now. Focusing more and try to aim for all A's instead of A's and B's
- SAT/ACT : Late April or Early May if available.
- Applying for college: August 2015
- Finish high school May 2016
Academically I think I am okay where I am. It may not be where I need to be because I can do better, but its good enough for my colleges. Starting off at at junior college will be best for me. I feel like If i began my college years at a really big school I wouldn't do so well and Im not really the type who likes to be around big crowds of people and I also get distracted easily. So starting off at a junior college will help me grow as a person and maybe I would transfer to one of the bigger colleges.

A college degree may not always be necessary for success. Even though you have a better chance at getting good/high paying jobs. But research says that nearly 50% of people who start a bachelors degree never finish, and class of 2013 had student loan debt of about $30,000. Its important to know what you will study in college that best fits the career you are trying to have. However, there are some jobs that do not require degrees. Just your talent such as :

- transportation manager
etc. These jobs are just as high paying as a job you would have with a degree.

I think the US system is good the way it is because people can pick and chose for themselves. Also as time moves on , we get more and more opportunities in the US. Some countries don't have the same opportunities as us nor the freedom. I would rate our system like a fair 8.

Spring Break
Umm... This spring break was kind of boring. There was NO type of sun out and it rained. The Saturday after we got out of school I went to Lancaster track meet to see my friends and I hung with Tatum that day and my bestfriend Olu. I did go to Keturahs birthday dinner on Tuesday so that was cool. I went camping with my family Thursday to Saturday morning. Which I disliked so much. Other than that, I chilled and got some good sleep.

1. The most influential leader I ever had is my cousin because she had to overcome hard obstacles in her life dealing with college and had to make allot of sacrifices to become the woman she is today.
2. I'm not really into poetry like that. People have different views on poetry. Mr. Keating based his life off poetry. All he knew was poetry.
3. I agree on the quote because I think you should look at every situation with a different perspective. Having a different view on things is always better.
4. The last impression I want to leave behind is that I lived my life to the fullest. That I was always the best friend I could be and I cared for everyone I came across. I was my own person and didn't care what other people had to say.

Dead Poets Society Cont...
1. I'm a little on both sides of Neil's suicide. I think if Mr. Keating wasn't there then no Neil wouldn't have committed suicide. Simply because Neil was okay with what his parents wanted him to be and he kept his passion inside and never let anyone know. When Mr Keating came everything was different. He told his students to go for something they have a passion for and look at life differently and that's what Neil did. He did a play and got the leading role. His dad was at the show but afterwards he took Neil home and yelled at him saying that it will be embarrassing or something like that. Also his dad was going to send him to military school. Neil didn't like that because he felt like it'll let his parents down and he couldn't pursue his own dreams. So he committed suicide because he couldn't be happy.
2. I would have to say Knox would be the bravest. He wanted his dream girl and wouldn't stop until he had her. Although she rejected him because she had a boyfriend, Knox really didn't care because her boyfriend was snobby. If im not mistaken, whichever one with the glasses, red hair and really smart would be the coward. I think his name is Steven Meeks? Anyway, he would be the coward because he was all up for the Dead Poets Society but in the end he snitched on the whole group to stay in the school. So yeah that wasn't cool.
3. I don't think Mr. Keating put the book in Neil's room. I think Neil just had it with him. Mr Keating didn't really care what the administration had to say about anything. If that was the case he would have been following the rules of the school.

Carpe Diem
I consider Carpe Diem as the central theme of Dead Poets Society. It means "Seize the day". Its what Mr. Keating tells them as they look at pictures of the alumni's who attended the school as well. Mr Keating wanted the students to look at life differently. From a different point of view. He wanted them to follow their dreams and to do their best to pursue it. To go for something they have a passion for. He tells the students about poetry and writing. He also brings up the secret group he had when when he was there called the Dead Poets Society. Its a group where everyone reads poetry and it helps them to express their inner emotions. Each of the students learn something from this and starts to strive for something they wanted to do. Like Neil wanted to pursue a career acting, Todd finally becomes bold and Knox wanted the girl of his dreams. Even though their parents already had their life planned out, with the influence of Mr.Keating, they decided to go for what they wanted. The one student who had the most impact on me was Neil. He wanted to tell his parents about acting and wanted them to come see him perform. He did quite well for the first time and he also had the leading role. His dad of course didn't allow it and basically told Neil that'll be an embarrassment. It hurt Neil's feelings really bad but he didn't want to let his parents down. Neil eventually committed suicide because he wanted to pursue his dreams and his parents didnt let him. Mr Keating had not only a good impact but also a some what bad impact. He told the students what to do but he didn't tell them how to do it or how to start. By that, the students were kind of rebellious. All he wanted was for his students was for them to go fro something they have a passion for. Although they got into some trouble , the students never gave up.
Character Questions
1. I think Knox is the most transformed in the film. At first Knox didn't know how to talk to a girl or approach her but throughout the movie as he learned about poetry in Mr. Keating's class, he worked up enough courage to actually talk to her. Not only that but he wanted her for himself and he wouldn't stop until he had her.
2. Mr Keating was one of the characters who didn't change. He was always happy and encouraging to the students. Even when he got in trouble by the school he never changed who he was.
3.Mr Keating is both inspiring and eccentric. He didn't change by his experience in the film. He kept a smile on his face no matter what, even on his bad days. He never let his students see him down.
4. Todd- He starts off as most timid of the poets, but gains confidence thanks to Mr. Keating and Neil's encouragement.
Neil- Restarted the Dead Poets Society. He wants to become an actor , but his dad forbids it. He wants Neil to become a doctor.Neil wanted to pursue his dreams but his father disapproved so Neil committed suicide.
Knox- He really wants this girl but shes with a snobby jerky boyfriend. At first he feared that she would never like him so he only looked from a distance. He finally worked up enough courage to talk to her from the help of friends and the Dead Poets society, and he kept going until she was all his.
Charlie- He's more the rebellious one of the bunch, but he never snitched on his friends. Even if he meant he get kicked out the school.

Mona Lisa Smile
2. Unorthodox- not conforming to rules, traditions, or modes of conduct, as of a doctrine, religion, or philosophy. One example from the movie is when Ms.Watson didn't teach the class according to the syllabus. She wanted the students to think outside the box and teach different art.By her not following the rules and traditions of the school got her into trouble.
5. I think Betty was happy to be with Spencer at first but as their marriage went on she wasn't too happy. Spencer always had to leave for work or had a random business trip. The women role back then was to be a housewife basically and follow her husbands rules. Her mother refused to let her daughter stay with her because it was a woman's job to be with her husband and not to get a divorce. When Betty saw Spencer with another female she was devastated. By that time, she didn't care what her mother had to say and decided to get a divorce and to finally be happy.

Ms Watson VS Charles Dickens'
Both Ms Watson and Mr Dickens' style of teacher differs allot. If they were to ever go head and head against each other, there is no telling who would win. Ms Watson had/wanted a relationship with her students. You could see that she actually cared for them especially by how she got one of her students accepted into Yale. She was quite an interesting teacher and wanted nothing but the best for her students. She liked to do activities with the class and she wanted them to think outside the box. See beyond the paint. She told them," you are not required to like it, just consider it" She believed everyone was entitled to their own opinion. As far as Charles Dickens' I feel as though he would be boring. He would have no type of connection or interact with students. He believes teaching and knowing nothing but facts is the way to go, but what if people have a different opinion about something then what? He's probably one of those snobby smart guys that knows and/or wants to know nothing but facts about the world.

Mona Lisa Smile
My favorite part of the movie was when Ms Watson and the male teacher got together. I felt like she liked him from the beginning anyway but she knew what he was all about. He use to be with a student in her class and honestly that would be very awkward dating one of your students ex. She gave him a chance after he promised to drop student affairs.. They were cute but I didn't like how he lied to her. I also didn't like the ending. They wanted to keep her as a teacher but they gave her all these rules and regulations of what she can and can't do. She basically had no freedom and I honestly wouldn't even feel comfortable. I think that if she didn't have all those rules, that she would have stayed but she went to Europe for a new beginning. Overall the movie was pretty cool.

Mona Lisa Smile
I think this movie will be about a college female professor who is teaching art. As her teaching continue through the days or weeks she will have conflict with a few of her students. It'll maybe be something they dislike about what she's teaching. It gets so bad to the point she wants to quit but she doesn't.... i don't think. She also found a guy who she goes on dates with and eventually i think they will fall in love.

Exams
I think that High School exams are the most easiest. Simply because the teachers gives you a review of the test the day before and also goes over anything that you don't fully understand. As far as studying, you know exactly what material you need to study and is easy to memorize. In college there is no review. You should just study and make sure you know everything your professor has taught. You must review everything from that class because you never know what'll be on the test. Another difference is that in High School , test are more often. You also have chances to make up he test if you bombed it. In college there are no makeups and you only have about 3 test max. You can prepare for your test by being on top of work because it takes allot of responsibility and try not to wait until the last minute to cram everything in. College exams are obviously harder than high school test. Its a big step up.
